Backpack Project
In 1993 there were only three congregations providing backpacks for less-advantaged children in Livermore.  This year there are eight congregations that will provide nearly 800 children with backpacks filled with supplies that they'll need to start the school year and a giftcard for a new pair of shoes will also be included.  Our church has committed to 150 backpacks again this year.  With your help, we can succeed in reaching this goal.
A contribution of $50 will cover the cost of one backpack, supplies and a shoe card, but any amount will be greatly appreciated. Contact Linda Alexander at 925-449-9305 or linda_alexander@sbcglobal.net

Livermore Homeless Refuge
Our church has partnered with several churches in Livermore to be a part of the Livermore Homeless Refuge. FPCL is the weekend location for the refuge when the weather conditions are projected to drop below 40 degrees and/or rain is expected.
First Presbyterian Church Livermore hosts weekend guests November through April, as needed.

Neighbor2Neighbor
“I will bless you so that you will be a blessing to others.” -God’s words to Abraham in Genesis 12

FPCL is not a church that sees itself as its own separate community, but rather understands itself as a part of the larger Livermore and Tri-Valley community. We strive to be a part of what makes our larger community stronger.
Neighbor2Neighbor is a program that plans and creates opportunities for our church to engage in acts of service and kindness that strengthen and help our community. These opportunities are intentionally designed to be “anonymous” acts of service and are accessible to people of ALL AGES. Neighbor2Neighbor is one way that our church seeks to “bless” our community without expecting anything in return. See more details here.

Open Heart Kitchen
A community of dedicated FPCL volunteers contributes to Open Heart Kitchen located at the  Vineyard Christian Fellowship Church, 460 N. Livermore Ave. Livermore, CA from 3:30 to 6:30 on the 3rd Thursday of every month.
Volunteers - 18 years of age and over can contribute in two ways:

  • packing sack lunches for students of local schools to be distributed on Fridays

  • serving hot meals to guests of the kitchen

FPCL maintains a list of willing volunteers and asks monthly who can participate and which job they prefer. To share time with a great community of volunteers, please contact Ann-Sofie Dean at ann_sofie.dean@yahoo.com

Global Partners

Heifer Project International
Heifer Project International is an organization that teaches ecologically sound methods of animal husbandry and farming, in order to promote self-sufficiency in needy areas of the world.
The Heifer Carnival is a long-time, fall tradition at First Presbyterian Church. This fun, intergenerational event raises funds for Heifer International, an organization dedicated to helping families and communities world-wide through farm animal grants and agricultural improvements. The entire community is invited. All proceeds will go to benefit Heifer International, an organization that fights world hunger by promoting sustainable agricultural practices in the developing world and in the United States.

Pilgrims of Ibillin
The Vineyard Chapter is the local body related to the national organization, Pilgrims of Ibillin. Pilgrims of Ibillin is dedicated to supporting Christian communities in the Holy Land in their efforts to promote peaceful coexistence among Christians, Muslims, and Jews. We work primarily in partnership with Mar Elias Educational Institutions (MEEI) in the village of Ibillin, in the Galilee region. We support MEEI, founded by Father Elias Chacour, in their educational mission with schools from kindergarten through university. The schools have more than 3,500 students and faculty who are Christian, Muslim and Jewish. We provide support through financial contributions, sponsorship of pilgrimages, and interpretation of the vision of MEEI to foster greater understanding of issues related to Christians, Muslims, and Jews living together in peace in the Holy Land. Check out the Pilgrims of Ibillin, USA web site at http://www.pilgrimsofibillin.org.
